The Essential Question: How do you use A.M. and P.M. to describe time. Important? Yes! No matter what grade, no matter how many digital clocks and cell phones we have, students still need to understand A.M. and P.M.
Mini-Lesson: Start your lesson by describing things that you do in both the morning and in the evening. Some great examples to get the discussion going are brushing your teeth, eating, playing, sleeping, etc. Then you can transition into morning only, with eating breakfast, going to the bus stop.... evening only activities would be eating dinner, going to bed, etc. Explain that we need to understand A.M. and P.M. for some important real life skills, catching a plane, watching a TV show, having an appointment at 12 P.M.
Extension Lesson: Using the cards from my center game pictured above, you can have the students act out different activities and then have the class guess the activity and if it is A.M. or P.M.
