SWAT FLY SWATTERS!
These fly swatters were on sale 3 in a bag
for a $1 at the Dollar General. I loved them so much I asked the hubby
to jump in the truck and come on a quick 'field trip' with me! I bought 7
bags for $7, then I bought the ribbon at Wal*Mart for
under 6 bucks. The basket was old and kicking around in our garage, so
we cleaned that up and added the left over ribbon ~ ta-da! I'm feeling
kind of crafty now! :)
To play SWAT, have the students write their vocabulary words on separate
index cards, spread them around the top of the desk & let the games
begin! They stand up & I called out each definition and then they
"swat" each word. I also make up fill-in-the-blank sentences,
opposites & "what comes first alphabetically?" etc. My students love it
& it allows them to get their wiggles out!
Those are cute fly swatters! I may just have to take a quick field trip too! :)

Learning Is Something to Treasure
I saw those too at my store, but I had passed on them as I bought several at another dollar store for $1 each! Bummer! Those are so much cuter - they look like blossoms!
ReplyDeleteI use these in the same way but for the answer to math problems...my 3rd graders love it!
I might have to go back and get those cute ones!

ReplyDeleteWonderful hands-on and active learning strategy/game! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to get some of these tomorrow. I have had my students play similar games, but this is a cute one as well. Diane, I like your idea about using this game for math answers as well. There are so many variations. Yahoo!

Those are the cutest fly swatters I have ever seen!! I used to play this game with my sixth graders vocabulary words but only had 2 swatters that came to the board to compete and swat the cards. I am your newest follower and would love for you to check out my blog!!
